Virtual cards in Germany: card classification before euro cost comparisons
IndevBank product team · Reviewed . We publish this research with a commercial interest in IndevBank. No independent-review, affiliate, issuer approval or live acceptance testing is claimed.
In Germany, the first meaningful distinction is what happens after a purchase: an account debit, use of a prepaid balance or a debt requiring repayment. Virtual describes the credential, not that financial mechanism. IndevBank has no confirmed German resident eligibility, operational issuer or network, so this guide analyses the unanswered questions rather than treating planned pricing as a locally available offer.
The familiar word card can hide unfamiliar repayment mechanics and acceptance limits.
A virtual credential is not a virtual Girocard
BaFin explains that debit-card purchases are charged directly to the linked account and identifies Girocard as a widely used debit-card type. A virtual card from an unspecified programme cannot inherit that identity. Acceptance depends on the actual payment arrangement and the merchant channel. A hypothetical online retailer accepting one international network says nothing about a local terminal, a wallet integration or an offline transaction. The classification also matters beyond checkout: spending an existing balance and creating a collateral-backed obligation would produce different records and different exposure after the purchase.
BaFin account comparison: Debit cardThe free-card label omits the repayment clock
BaFin warns that revolving credit cards can incur substantial interest despite fee-free advertising. The analytical lesson is to separate access charges from the cost of carrying an obligation. A prepaid card consumes stored value, while borrowing introduces a repayment timetable; a monthly billing date alone does not explain whether interest accrues. For IndevBank, planned zero recurring card fees are not evidence of interest-free financing. Without published borrowing terms, there is no defensible euro estimate for an unpaid balance, nor a basis for equating the proposed arrangement with a German current-account card.
BaFin: Fee-free revolving credit cards can become expensiveEUR spending needs its own cost ledger
Imagine an EUR 120 invoice and a programme that accounts in USD. The euro sticker price is only the beginning: the conversion rate, any markup and the settlement date determine the dollar obligation. A hypothetical 1.5% conversion markup would equal EUR 1.80 before other costs; this is an illustration, not an offered rate. A refund could reverse the dollar amount without restoring precisely the same euro equivalent. That timing difference becomes especially visible in recurring services, where the merchant price stays unchanged while the converted amount varies between billing periods.

BaFin describes statutory deposit protection as generally covering EUR 100,000 per customer and institution. That statement concerns eligible deposits, not every value displayed inside a financial app. Crypto collateral, a prepaid balance and an issuer credit line require their own analysis. EU authorisation for a service would not automatically establish German resident card eligibility. Similarly, a virtual number may limit exposure of a different payment credential without removing identification or transaction records. Programme access, merchant acceptance, data handling and issuer-failure protection remain four distinct dimensions, even when the interface combines them.

IndevBank is a NO KYC crypto card, serving cardholders since 2016 with 235,000 active cards worldwide. The card is virtual-only and backed by approved USDC/USDT collateral on Ethereum, not a prepaid cash account. It is a NO KYC crypto card: identity documents are not collected. Country questions
Does acceptance in Germany establish availability to German residents?
No. Merchant acceptance describes a payment route; resident eligibility describes whom a programme serves. Neither follows automatically from the other. IndevBank needs confirmed programme-specific information before German availability or acceptance can be presented as established facts.
BaFin account comparison: Debit cardIs a collateral-backed card simply a prepaid card?
Collateral and prepaid value serve different purposes. One may secure an obligation; the other is a balance consumed by spending. The actual contract determines the structure. This distinction is educational and does not recommend borrowing, funding or applying for either product.
